Do you see this?  Do you know what this is?

It’s a blackhole for stay at home moms.  If you car is anywhere within a 2 mile radius, you get sucked in.  You can’t prevent it.  It’s physics.

Here is a closer look at what causes the undeniable pull:

That’s right. A Target next to a Hobby Lobby (which is next to a Home Depot and in the same shopping center as McDonalds for a McFlurry and Sonic…Sonic Slushy Happy Hour, what?).  Oh, and there is a Homegood across the street.  It’s a “dangerous” part of town, ladies.

During the heat of the summer I would see countless moms walking the air conditioned aisles with their babies in Target.  And Hobby Lobby is like a visual candy store for Bradley with all the colors and sparkles.  We go there a lot.  A lot. It’s the perfect field trip on fussy days…..and we used to have a lot of fussy days.  I’ve always been pretty frugal and can usually limit myself to one or two things in a trip.  Unfortunately, when you take 2 or 3 trips a week….it adds up.

This month I have given myself a challenge.  $40.  I have $40 total to spend at Hobby Lobby, Old Navy, Homegoods, etc and for non-essentials at Target.  $40 for the entire month of November.  When it’s gone, it’s gone.  This also includes buying Christmas decorations. Woah.

Not only will this help me be more cognizant of my spending, it will also help me finish the stacks of unfinished and unstarted projects that I have collected during the previous months of fieldtrips.  It will encourage me to dig into my overflowing closet and get creative on putting together a new outfit instead of buying more to add to the racks of clothes I already have.

I’m excited.  I’ve already finished a few neglected projects that I will share soon.

What are your tips for setting a budget and sticking to it?  What is your favorite store to (window or not) shop in?
